This Langstroth 10-Frame Hive in American Pine includes the same sturdy components as our standard hive: one deep box, a zinc-lined cover, and a bottom board, but with an added linseed oil finish applied to the entire exterior wood surface.

Linseed oil is a natural, traditional beekeeping treatment used for generations to protect hive wood without chemical paints. It penetrates deep into the pine fibers, sealing the pores and providing resistance to rain, moisture, and UV rays, while enhancing the wood's natural grain with a warm, golden tone. Unlike conventional paint, it doesn't chip or require frequent sanding, and maintenance simply involves reapplying a coat every one to two years.

The deep box is designed for 10 standard frames, with approximate outside dimensions of 19-7/8" long x 16-1/4" wide x 9-5/8" tall, following the worldwide Langstroth standard. This treatment is completely safe for bees, as it is applied only to the exterior of the hive and releases no toxic compounds once dry. Ideal as a starter hive for new beekeepers or for splitting colonies.
